The network was visible to the laptop, but on trying to connect, the above error would come up. The error message is not very helpful, as the network was obviously in range and my laptop and smartphone both showed full signal strength. Amazingly, even a service tech could not fix the issue. Ok, I uninstalled the wireless card and reinstalled it in Device Manager and all the WPA2 encryption modes are now visible. Thanks for looking and hope this helps someone else.

I updated the wireless card driver and all other hardware drivers before running SP3. No antivirus software was installed at the time I installed SP3. Windows is and was in control of the wireless card the whole time.

I have Windows 7 systems which connected immediately after asking for the security key. I connect with an ethernet cable to the router and let device manager search for an updated driver but it reported that I have the latest.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
