Also, because it allows such a deep cut into the wood, it will make short work of any planing that I need to do in my shop. Given the choice between higher speed and true variable speed control, I prefer to have the ability to slow the feed rate down to deliver a better surface quality on figured lumber or glued up panels. A recent magazine article that reviewed large planers did not include the Woodmaster, only foreign made units. We need more articles showing made in the USA tools. Thanks for the comment. I am surprised by the lack of coverage for this tool around the woodworking community.
I think it is pretty dominant in the molding market, and Woodmaster markets it more based on that capability, which makes sense because they make a lot more profit margin when someone buys a lot of molding knives versus just using the machine as a planer.
But I think as a planer it is the best kept secret in the woodworking market. Glad you are having a positive experience with your as well. I believe that the advantage is more in the durability of the motor itself. I recently ran several hundred boards of Knotty Alder through it for a trim project. The height adjustments got stuck and took me forever to set up correctly. The knives were a pain to sharpen. I sold it after the project finished because it was a pain.
That would have been a better match for my project. Since I got the WoodMaster, the Jet sits in the corner. No comparison between the two. The WoodMaster outshines in all aspects. Paul, I am familiar with the tool that you mentioned, and I believe it is a decent planer and ok for occasional molding operations, but as you say it is probably not intended for production use.
After going through the Woodmaster machine thoroughly, talking to other owners, and now working with it extensively for about 6 months, I am confident that this thing is built to last and provides a great value. Hi Larry, I believe that WM has these available. I agree with everything this article has mentioned. I also own a WoodMaster with a spiral cutter head. A bit spendy at first but so worth it.
Quality of cut and ease of setup verses sharpening and resetting the conventional cutter head is fantastic. All aspects of this machine plus the customer service has by far exceeded my expectations.
The initial setup was a breeze and the DVD was a great help. Take your time and you will be well pleased with the results. I really like the 4 in 1 wood master I want to have one can you give me the a month of it complete package I am in Nigeria I want to go into picture frames and crown molde making.
Thanks I really need your assistance. I followed the video process you have to take out the straight cutter block and put in the spiral. Ran into a problem getting the left handed tapered shaft out but eventually managed. My one issue is the chaff that gets thrown out of the machine.
